Announcer
Upgrading from v1.x to 1.2
- Create a new subdirectory called 'data'
under your /cgi-bin/announcer directory. It will exist at
the following once you have create it:
/cgi-bin/announcer/data
If this data directory already exists, you
can skip to step 5.
- CHMOD this directory 777.
- Move you subscriber data files
into the new 'data' directory.
These are the files that have the subscriber information such as
email address and name in them.
Once they are moved, make sure they are chmod 666.
- Move your 'confirm.pl' file
into the new 'data' directory and rename it to '_confirm.pl'.
If this file does not exist, ignore this step.
Make sure this file is chmod 666 after the move.
- Your directory structure should
look like the following:
cgi-bin/announcer (Directory - 777 or 755)
|- announcer.pl (755)
|- setup.pl (666)
|- lists.pl (666)
|- template.htm (normal permissions)
|
| ---- cgi-bin/announcer/data (Directory - 777)
|- _confirm.pl (666)
|- subscriber data files (666)
- Replace your old announcer.pl
file with your new announcer.pl file.
You may need to edit the perl path before uploading
the new file.
NOTE: You should
never overwrite your setup.pl file or your data files.
The only file you should have to replace is the announcer.pl
file.
- Now go to your admin screen. It
can be accessed that same as before which was:
http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/announcer/announcer.pl?xxxx
where xxxx is your admin key.
- Go into the Script Settings, check
all of the options, and then resubmit them.
- To check everything went smooth,
try viewing each of your email lists. If you can see all
of your subscribers, the upgrade went fine and is complete.
- If you cannot see your
subscribers, check all the steps above to make sure you
performed each of them correctly.
